J.J. Gillespie is America's oldest fine arts gallery entering its third century, and was established in 1832. It was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by John Jones Gillespie in March of 1832 to provide the demand for the finest things of refined living. Connections were made with all the leading New York and European art dealers which brought to Pittsburgh the finest of old masters, Barbizon, and English and American paintings. These inspired the art spirit which culminated in large fine art collections by The Carnegie Institute and from which many great collections were formed. Frame making, gilding, and picture restoration were introduced in the year 1845 and the name Gillespie has always been synonymous with the finest workmanship. For 176 years Gillespie has been continuous not only in name but with the same principles laid by the founder. As in the early years, the workshop is located in the same building making it possible to give personal attention to the various branches of the business: paintings, restoration, and frame making. We are proud to offer a large inventory of oil paintings covering a broad range of styles and subject matter at reasonable prices, making art available to all. American, European, and international artists are frequently featured in the gallery. Meticulous attention is paid to customer satisfaction by our master framer.
